Dear Brothers & Sisters,

Recall I have a vision. I long to see our church becoming a sacred place where each member of the church feels safe to practice being more like Jesus Christ without being judged. Everything we do in the church is all about discipleship. It was Jesus who commanded his followers to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything he has commanded you (Matthew 28:18-20). To go is not going to a certain geographical location to make disciples and then come back to the comfort of your home two weeks later. To “go” means as we are going about our daily lives, we teach others the way of God. We set a live example to those who are around us; whether they may be at home, school, work, social circle, or at church. The pastoral team made efforts to disciple each member of the church so that we are all equipped to teach more people to live according to God’s will. The greatest success is for us to see is God’s given inheritance, His way, will never cease passing down to future generations.

Moses once wrote, “Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures…” (Psalms 90:10). Moses had long been training Joshua, his successor, since the first time Israelites refused to cross the Jordan River into the Promised Land (Deuteronomy 1:37-38). Did Joshua learn how to lead the Israelites how to fight in the war after or before Moses died? No, Moses was watching while Joshua led the battle (Exodus 17:9). While we still have the strength to serve; while our mind is still clear; have we thought about training others to serve with confidence? Have we empowered others to lead even though they may lack experience and we support them in the background? One of the responsibilities church leaders must do is to ensure the church remains faithful to the teaching of the Bible. However, God does not need us to protect the church. He is the protector. Our responsibility as church leaders is to empower others to become faithful. If leaders do not trust our brothers and sisters who have been discipled by our own hands, we will risk losing faithful brothers and sisters who can build up our church. Let us trust in the work we have done with confidence and empower others to serve with confidence to exceed what we have done in the church.

Brothers and sisters, we need your commitment. Unless you commit to Bethel, leaders of the church cannot empower you to serve in a greater capacity. Joshua was chosen by God to succeed Moses; each of you has also been chosen by God to be part of Bethel. We are aware our church is aging and lacking people to serve. Most of us also know we are trying to rebuild our church. How can we rebuild the church when we are not united? Our pastoral team has offered training in various departments, serving opportunities, and informing the whole church of our needs. Unless you see Bethel as your spiritual family, our church will remain unchanged. Just as the Apostle Paul mentioned we have different talents through the metaphor of a body (1 Corinthians 12:12-27), your contribution and commitment are both important. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our pastoral team to have more conversation. You may contact me at peter.chong@bethelmb.org. I can read Chinese too. Please continue to pray for our church. Thank you.

您可以通過 peter.chong@bethelmb.org 與我聯繫。

您可以通过 peter.chong@bethelmb.org 与我联系。
